THE WEST HILL SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP – CLOSED JUNE 2020
Young children are naturally curious about the world around them and eager to explore topics that are relevant to their everyday lives. Our summer session offers opportunities for children to experience literacy, mathematics, science, technology and the arts through topics and activities that interest them, extend their thinking and promote exploration and discovery. Children celebrate learning through the excitement of discovery as they explore meaningful topics, formulate questions, and find answers to those questions through investigations and thoughtfully planned activities. Add singing, creative movement, water play, yoga and storytelling for a day filled with fun and learning! All themes incorporate literacy, math, social studies, and science skills in addition to attention to physical, social and emotional development.
SAMPLE – Weekly Themes
Kids on the Moves: Young children are in nearly constant motion! This study begins with children’s desire to move. Children will explore many different types of exercise, observe people exercising, and learn about the mechanics of movement.
Fairy Tales Around the World: Welcome to the world of Once Upon a Time and Happily Ever After. Children will explore fairy tales from different countries, learning the origins of some of our most beloved stories.
The Jacket I Wear in the Snow: By the time children are in preschool, they develop distinct preferences for colors, fabrics, and styles of dress. This study will emphasize children’s interest in clothing as we explore what we wear during different seasons in Pennsylvania.
Garden Helpers: Ants, and Beetles, and Worms, Oh My! This study will expand upon children’s natural curiosity in the different bugs and insects they find in the garden, and how these creatures help our plants grow and thrive.
